Abstract

The control of electric currents by the diodes and transistors is at the origin of the modern which has revolutionized our current life. Astonishing, similar devices which make possible the control of heat flow is not so frequent in our daily life. In this work we introduce the first building blocks able to either rectify, switch, modulate or even amplify the heat flow exchanged by thermal photons between two thermal reservoirs. These basic systems could find important applications in the development of future contactless thermal circuits for the thermal management of systems from the nanoscale to macroscale. They could also find applications in the development of future circuits for processing information by utilizing photons rather than electrons.
