Numerical Study of the Water Droplet Parameters in Icing Tunnel Test
Abstract
Based on the research of droplets movement in icing tunnel, the computational model of the heat and mass
transfer between the air and the droplets is given. The equations of parameters change of water droplets are
established during the movement with the tunnel air. The method of analyzing droplets diameter and
temperature is programmed. The parameters of water droplets are calculated and analyzed. The variations of
temperature and diameter of water droplets are compared under the different icing conditions. The total
temperature of simulation air flow ranges from 253.15K to 268.15K and the air velocity ranges from 40m/s
to 160m/s for the water droplet parametric study. The air flow relative humidity ranges from 0% to 90%. The
median volume diameter of the water droplets is 27micro and the temperature of spray water ranges from
283.15K to 313.15K. The results show that parameters change of water droplets presents different
characteristics under different spray and air flow conditions in icing tunnel.
