ANALYSIS OF TEMPERATURE UNIFORMITY AND MEASUREMENT OF BOILING CURVE IN TRANSITION BOILING ON A LARGE SURFACE CONSISTS OF FIVE PARTS

Abstract

This paper deals with the limitation to keep uniform temperature for a uniformly heated cylindrical block in transition boiling, first. Then we report the boiling curve measured with the heater block that falls under the uniform criteria. To attain uniform temperature up to the negative slope of about −70kW/m2K, the heater block is divided into five parts, individually controlled. Diverging rate of modes in a fan-shaped part that satisfy adiabatic boundary conditions on the inner plain face, the side face, the outer cylindrical face and the bottom heat input surface, and the boundary condition of linear approximation of boiling heat transfer on the top boiling surface is derived and the stability criteria is obtained as Eq. (14). On the calculation of wall temperature and wall heat flux it is found that exact matching type inverse heat conduction can be used in the slow transient boiling such that the time step of temperature data is 0.125s, and that Crank-Nicolson scheme causes instability in such inverse heat conduction solution. Heat transfer has been measured as designated temperature is changed stepwise. The wall temperature and wall heat flux is obtained by a method intermediate scheme of fully implicit and Crank-Nicolson schemes. Boiling curve is presented with fluctuation widths of temperature and heat flux. Heat transfer characteristics are the same for heating and cooling.
