Abstract

In this work, the heat transfer capability of a loop heat pipe (LHP) with two evaporators and one condenser was experimentally investigated with acetone as the working fluid. In order to investigate the flow pattern and the volume distribution directly, the visualization tests were conducted in the condenser and compensation chambers of the MLHP with the variation of heat loads under gravity-assisted condition. The experiment was conducted under the gravity-assisted condition (condenser was positioned 35cm higher than evaporators) with both evaporators-heated case and single evaporator-heated case respectively. For the visualization test, the condenser of MLHP was fabricated with transparent plastic pipe and the glass tube was installed in each compensation chamber. The high-speed camera was applied to observe the condensation and two-phase flow in the condenser while the evaporation process was recorded by cameras with borescopes through glass tubes. From the observation, at low heat load, the two-phase flow region became longer in both modes and the heat sharing disappeared in the single evaporator-heated mode because of gravitational effect.
