Abstract

Chemical heat storage is considered as one of the most promising ways to recover waste heat from industrial processes. However, the present heat storage rate is quite low and needs to be improved for practical use. In the research, we have performed the numerical simulation of EM8 (composite material of expanded graphite (EG) and Mg(OH)2 powder with mass ratio of 1:8 in tablet figure) packed bed reactor for thermochemical energy storage to investigate dominant factors for heat transfer in the reactor. The numerical results showed that heat transfer in the reactor was enhanced by radiation and the emissivity of the material is important in this reactor. Furthermore, we have estimated the optimized thermal conductivity of the material in this reactor.
