Abstract

Supercritical water has been applied to energy, environment and chemical industry areas widely for the unique physical and chemical properties. For the sharp variation and singularity of water properties near the critical point, the heat transfer at this region has gotten extensive studied, especially in the conventional thermal power and nuclear reactor. However, these researches are almost focused on the heat transfer of SCW in tubes or rod bundles. In the application of supercritical water gasification, material synthesis in supercritical water and so on, the phenomenon of supercritical water flow past particle is ubiquitous. So the investigations on heat transfer of supercritical water flow past a spherical-particle have a great significance. But the investigations are limited to the so-called external heat transfer problem, which corresponding to the isothermal cases or cases with a constant particle surface temperature without the consideration of heat transfer inside particle. So in this work, the conjugated heat transfer of supercritical water flow past a spherical particle was studied numerically with the Re range of 10-200 and averaged heat flux of 25-500kw/m2. Considering the peculiar water properties near critical point, the real water properties based on the IAPWS-IF 97 equations were used in the simulation. The simulated results show that, under supercritical condition far away from the critical point, the heat transfer process is similar to that at normal operating condition and the empirical correlations are also applicable. Near the critical point, the heat transfer got obvious reinforcement and the large special heat capacity zone in the flow field was the major influence factor of the heat transfer characteristics.
