Abstract

An experimental investigation on the open loop spray cooling is carried out on a heated circular copper surface of area 3.14 cm2 at mass flow rate of water 5.2 g/s. A multi-nozzle array with four nozzles is used in this experiment. The heated surface and the multi-nozzle array are housed in a confined steel chamber and the heated surface is vertically oriented for the gravity-assisted drainage of unevaporated liquid. The heat transfer performance is analyzed for the bare flat surface, hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) coated surface and straight fin-structured surface. Compared to the bare surface, a maximum heat flux enhancement of 28.2% is achieved for h-BN coated surfaces at heat flux 354 W/cm2.
