Abstract

In order to ensure the data center temperature and humidity, the air conditioner system of the data center must operate every day. Therefore the energy consumption of data center is huge. Under the premise of satisfying the heat dissipation requirement, how to reduce the energy consumption of air conditioner must be explored. Furthermore the energy conservation potential can reach by using the outdoor air to cool the server during cold times of the year. Heat pipes are passive devices which operate by utilizing the latent heat of an internal working fluid to transfer large amounts of heat, nearly isothermally, with a minimal driving temperature difference through a small cross sectional area. So in this paper, the energy efficiency analysis of data center using separated heat pipe are studied based on the numerical simulation and experiment results.
In the paper energy conservation method in data center had been studied. And then by using the theoretical model, the heat pipe heat exchange was designed according to the heat load. The experiment system of data center cooling was built. The system included a heat source, return air system and a simulation outdoor environment. The relationship between the air volume and temperature was studied, and the heat exchange capacity and COP (Coefficient of Performance) at different indoor and outdoor air temperature are obtained. The results shows that the separated heat pipe system can realize energy conservation and be suitable for high heat density buildings such as data center and telecommunication base station.
