EVALUATION OF CONDENSATION HEAT TRANSFER CORRELATIONS FOR THE ANNULAR FLOW REGIME IN MICROFIN TUBES

Abstract

Experimental heat transfer data of condensation in the annular flow regime for horizontal micro-fin tubes from the previous literature were collected to investigate the heat transfer characteristics. The collected database were composed of 830 data points, which included a wide range of refrigerants, mass fluxes, inlet and outlet vapor qualities, reduced pressure, saturation temperatures and various micro-fin geometric dimensions. The hydraulic diameter was applied in the calculation of the Reynolds number and other dimensionless numbers. In this paper, four most widely used condensation heat transfer correlations were evaluated by the database. Their prediction performance have been assessed by the comparison of experimental data and predictive values. For different refrigerants, the best prediction correlation was selected for reliable thermal designs.
