Abstrakt

Gas-particle Nusselt numbers in packed beds at Reynolds numbers between 0.3 and 41.7 are reported using a two-phase three parameter model which accounts for both axial conduction in the solid phase and dispersion in the gas phase. A Nusselt number of 0.564 was obtained at a Reynolds number of 0.3. At Reynolds numbers of 0.846 and 1.78, the Nusselt number decreased as the voidage did. A new solution is presented which shows under what conditions a single phase model with an effective thermal conductivity is representative of low Reynolds number heat transfer in packed beds.
