Abstrakt

Detailed measurements have been carried out of the circumgerential and longitudinal temperature distribution on the outside wall of a horizontal steam evaporator tube operating at pressures up to 66.5 bars and over a wide range of water/steam mass flow velocities, steam qualities and heat fluxes. The examined inlet geometries to the evaporator tube included a long hydrodynamic calming section and two 180° bends of different radii placed either in the vertical or horizontal plane. With the inlet bend placed in the vertical plane, large amplitude temperature oscillations and "dry wall" patches were observed to develop along the top of the evaporator tube for a wide range of operating conditions. Parameters affecting the development and spread of these disturbances along the top of the tube are analysed and discussed.
