Abstrakt

An analysis for predicting the void fraction in subcooled flow boiling is summarized and extended to include the prediction of the pressure drop in the subcooled region. Experimental measurements of the local void fraction, liquid phase temperature, and velocity profiles in low pressure water flowing vertically upward are presented and employed to validate the suggested analytical model. Further void fraction and pressure drop measurements up to deduced pressures of 0.7 in both Refrigerant-22 and water are also satisfactorily compared with the predicted values. The effect of pH and reactivity control additives on the void fraction and the presence of transverse static pressure profiles are indicated.
