Abstrakt

Laminar flow systems have been studied in which buoyancy modifies the forced flow, and the previous theoretical work on fully developed flows in vertical annuli with uniform heat flux at the inner surface has now been extended to a consideration of developing flows in which appreciable radial velocities exist. The application of a finite difference iterative computer technique is presented which has been found to be workable well into the stable reversed flow regime and gives results for flow reversal in good agreement with the previously reported experiments. For a radius ratio of 3, results are presented of axial velocities, radial velocities, temperature, and local Nusselt number.
