Abstrakt

A theoretical analysis for predicting the hydrodynamic and transport characteristics of fluid within internally energised porous element is presented. Liquid preheating, phase-conversion and vapour superheat within the porous reactor are included. Various shapes of porous reactors - plane, cylindrical and spherical - are considered and compared for a wide range of vapour superheat, and low flow rates of coolant where the Darcy's law is applicable. The performance characteristics of the various geometries are presented for a representative range of the viscous flow regime.

In the case of temperature-dependent rate of heat generation, closed form analytical solutions are obtained for the temperature distribution within the porous medium. In the more general case, where both the thermal conductivity and the rate of internal heat generation are temperature-dependent, a different approach which yields series solutions for the temperature profiles is presented. The concept of temperature-dependent rate of heat generation is aimed at stabilizing the element operation and protecting the matrix from burnout.
