Abstrakt

Heat transfer from an isothermal vertical cylinder placed in a horizontal fluid flow has been considered, the flow conditions being such that the buoyancy forces have an influence on the flow despite the presence of the forced velocity. The study is based on the use of the three-dimensional laminar boundary layer equations. These equations have been written in terms of dimensionless variables, the resulting equations containing only the fluid Prandtl number as an explicit variable. These equations have then been numerically solved using finite difference approximations. Results have been obtained for Prandtl numbers of 0.7 and 10 and these results have been used in an attempt to define the conditions under which the buoyancy forces have a strong influence on the results.
