Abstrakt

The classical Jeffery-Hamel flow is extended to include free-convection, with energy dissipation neglected. Asymptotic cases of solutions, with velocity and temperature-difference proportional to the first and the third power, respectively, of l/(radial distance), are sought for small and large Reynolds numbers. Techniques of regular and singular (matched inner-outer) perturbation are employed. It is found that backflows can be induced by free convection if the Grashof number is large enough, and that the boundary layer in a convergent flow can be made to separate by buoyancy when it opposes the flow. Selected numerical examples are presented with discussions.
