NATURAL CONVECTION IN OPEN RECTANGULAR CAVITIES

Abstrakt

Heat transfer from a uniform array of open rectangular cavities heated from the base and from both base and walls was investigated experimentally and numerically for Grashof Numbers (Gr) from 1 to 105 where Grashof number is calculated based on cavity width. The partitions were of. equal width with the 4 cavities. For cavity depth to width ratios of up to 4 no effect of the ratio was noted for Gr > 104. Below this value significant differences were noted for Prandtl number near unity; particularly, below Gr of 103 the heat transfer was independent of Gr and dependent on cavity depth to width.
