Abstrakt

The reflection-free pressure associated with the inception and growth of bubbles from an isolated site on a platinum wire is reported. The pressure, bubble radius, velocity and acceleration of the bubble wall are determined as a function of time from data recorded by high speed motion pictures. Using the differential momentum equation and the experimental pressure pulse data, the radius-time relationship is predicted. Conversely, using the same equation and the experimental radius versus time data, the pressure disturbance is calculated. Both predictions are in good agreement with the experimental data. The effect of system pressure and liquid subcooling on the magnitude and period of the pressure pulse is also shown.
