Convective heat transfer performances of fluids with nano-particles

Abstrakt

An experimental system was built to study convective heat transfer feature of fluids containing nanoparticles. The convective heat transfer coefficient of the sample fluids by suspending nanoscaled copper particles in water for the fully developed laminar and turbulent flow inside a tube was measured. The experimental results showed that the suspended nanoparticles remarkably increase heat transfer performance of the base fluid and the suspension has larger heat transfer coefficient than pure water under the same Reynolds number. The heat transfer feature of the suspension increases with the volume fraction of nanoparticles. Considering some factors affecting the convective heat transfer coefficient of the suspension, a new convective heat transfer correlation for nanoparticle-fluid suspension under single-phase flows in tubes was established. Comparison between the experimental data and the calculated results indicated that the correlation describes correctly the energy transport process of the suspension.
