Abstrakt

Forced convection from bluff bodies has been studied with particular reference to small electrically heated cylinders at low Reynolds numbers. The results cover flow Mach numbers up to two, with densities from atmospheric down to free molecular flow conditions and with surface temperatures up to 800°C. It was found that the Nusselt number could be correlated directly with Reynolds number and body shape at constant Prandtl number. Furthermore the appropriate value of the Reynolds number corresponds to flow conditions with zero heat transfer.
