Abstrakt

Heat and momentum transfer in the wall region of turbulent pipe flow have been measured by employing a combined cold wire and V-shaped hot wire anemometry technique developed by the authors. The transport of heat and momentum near the wall is found to be very intermittent and strongly associated with the coherent turbulent structures. Profile measurements of turbulent heat and momentum transfer were made well into the wall region, and hence the information obtained can be used to provide for verification of existing turbulence models, particularly those based on Reynolds stress and heat-flux closures, and to lead to the development of new ones. The radial turbulent heat flux, when scaled with the wall variables, is equal to the Reynolds shear stress in the turbulent part of the wall region. However, the former becomes increasingly smaller than the latter as the wall is approached, and thus the turbulent Prandtl number increases markedly in close proximity to the wall. The ratio of axial to radial turbulent heat fluxes is well modelled by the corresponding generation ratio in the heat-flux transport equations.
