Abstrakt

The velocity field, turbulence intensity and heat transfer coefficient are measured in a circular cooling channel of 58 mm in diameter and 950 mm in length (approx. 15,5 d) into which air enters obliquely under various angles of attack, from 0 to 70. The experimental results demonstrate the considerable influence of the oblique inlet on the development of wall shear stress and heat transfer. From the distribution of the wall shear stress we can see that not even at a distance of L=15.5d from the inlet the flow field is fully developed(neither on the windward nor on the leeward side) and that the greater the angle of attack, the shorter is the distance L/d from the channel inlet where the wall shear distribution achieves identical values for windward and leeward sides. The heat transfer coefficient is also affected considerably by the oblique inlet, e.g. for the angle 70° the heat transfer increases by app.30%.
