Abstrakt

The purpose of this study is to investigate the radiation affected laminar natural convection heat transfer to non-Newtonian fluids. In particular, the investigation centered on momentum and heat transfer to a moving non-Newtonian fluid with thermal radiation heat transfer influence. The prime interest is for fluids with large Prandtl numbers. The study was initiated by first determining a set of transformation variables for the laminar boundary layer equations which reduce them to ordinary differential equations. Solutions of these equations are based on incompressible, viscous flows where the properties such as viscosity and thermal conductivity are assumed to be constant. The geometry used in the analysis is a vertical flat plate which is impermeable. The radiation properties of the medium were assumed to be optically thick and referred to as the Rosseland approximation. The radiation heat flux which resulted from the Rosseland approximation was linearized for the purpose of obtaining the similarity solutions. Numerical results are presented for several non-Newtonian cases at various values of radiation heat transfer.
