Abstrakt

An acoustic technique for the measurement of mean and spatial distribution of temperature and velocity in combustion gases is described. The technique, which overcomes many of the problems associated with conventional instrumentation is based on the time taken for sound to travel along different paths in the measurement zone. The required distribution is represented by a Fourier series and the Fourier coefficients are found by deconvolution from sets of measurements. The accuracy of the resulting distributions and dependence of the errors on the deconvolution parameters as well as on practical considerations are given. Results of measurements at high (1700K) and medium temperatures are shown together with comparisons with alternative measurements.
