Abstrakt

The heat transfer coefficient distribution for a circular asymmetric abrupt expansion and an asymmetric cavity has been measured. The air flow just upstream of the expansion was unheated and fully developed. The expansion region consisted of an externally heated thick-walled aluminum tube with a heat flux gage built into the smooth inside wall. The diameter ratio was 0.4 and measurements were made at a Reynolds number close to 17,000 (based on the large diameter). The results show a substantial augmentation of the heat transfer (many times the fully developed value) downstream of the expansion. This augmentation is more marked for the asymmetric cases investigated here than for previously investigated axisymmetric cases.
