Abstrakt

The work presents the results of an experimental investigation on single-phase forced convection heat transfer in a horizontal tube by using different types of static mixers. The experiments were performed at the Institute for Process Technology of the Technical University Braunschweig with a Newtonian fluid, which has been cooled at constant wall temperature. The local heat flux and the pressure drop were measured simultaneously. Seven different types of static mixers, which were fixed over the whole length of the horizontal tube heat exchanger, served as devices for the improvement of the heat transfer.
The flow behaviour within the static mixers was determined by flow visualization in a horizontal glass tube which was installed at the Institute for Technical Chemistry of the Hungarian Academy of Science. The different flow patterns gave the basis for the evaluation of the measured heat transfer and pressure drop data.
