HEAT TRANSFER IN BAFFLED SLURRY BUBBLE COLUMNS
Experimental data of heat-transfer coefficient reported by Saxena and coworkers as obtained on slurry bubble columns of diameters 0.108 and 0.305m and equipped with internal baffles comprising of seven and thirtyseven 19mm diameter tubes respectively, are analyzed. These internals are arranged in an equilateral triangular configuration of 36.5mm pitch. Kast's mechanistic theory of heat-transfer as elaborated by Deckwer for unbaffled bubble columns under well defined assumptions has been extended for baffled bubble columns and is tested successfully for two- and three-phase systems. A discussion of the thermal boundary-layer theory is also presented.
