Eorumgol ('ice valley' in Miryang, Korea) is famous for its cold air-emitting talus in summer. When the ambient temperature exceeds 20° C in summer, ice is formed by the cold air stream at the bottom of the valley. In this paper, natural convection in the talus is simulated numerically. A one-dimensional analysis is successfully performed to correctly predict the emission of cold air in summer. It is shown that the air flowing in the talus is stable in summer, since it is colder than the ambient; in winter, it is unstable and may be detached due to buoyancy. It is shown also that possible detachment in winter does not alter the phenomenon in summer. The talus temperature is always higher at the top than at the bottom. There is phase difference between the talus and ambient temperatures. About 500 m of talus length is required to form ice in summer.
