Abstrakt

Geometry effect and transient behaviors on the operation of a heat pipe with two heaters have been investigated. Temperature variations according to the change of the heater length were presented. Also, transient outer wall temperatures with the switching heaters were presented. A numerical model was used to predict the temperature profiles and an experiment using the copper-water heat pipe with 0.45m length was performed to evaluate the numerical model. Results showed that the spacing between heaters did not have a significant effect on the temperature profiles at the outer wall of heat pipe. The impact of heater size was restricted on the area of heater itself not on the area of the other heater. For the heat pipe transient behaviors against the switching heaters, transient time to reach another steady state was about 700s, which was affected mainly by the heat capacity of heater used for the experiment.
