Abstrakt

Performance characteristics were experimentally determined for convective boiling of methanol in an aluminum cold plate. The cold plate was developed to cool electronics for phased-array radars in defense systems applications. The internal geometry tested was parallel flow with mini-channels and porous aluminum foam inlet and outlet headers. Two-phase pressure drop, average heat transfer coefficient, and sold plate surface temperatures were determined for volume flow rates ranging from 50 to 320 ml/min, equilibrium inlet qualities ranging from −0.1 to +0.4, and a fixed input heat flux.
