EFFECTIVENESS ANALYSIS OF THE REGENERATOR IN AN INCOMPRESSIBLE OSCILLATING FLOW
Abstrakt
The effectiveness of the regenerator for typical regenerative cycle machines was studied by analyzing the heat transfer characteristics pertaining to the oscillating flow. The conventional definition of the regenerator effectiveness in terms of the Ntu number was based on the unidirectional steady flows and therefore smeared the intrinsic nature of the oscillating flow such as the time-dependency of velocity and temperature. In this study, a new consistent definition of the regenerator effectiveness expressed by the ratio of the heat transfer in axial direction( Q axial ) to that in transverse
direction( Q w ) together with its approximate form for practical
utility was suggested. Also, an approximate expression of the ratio Q axial / Q w was provided such that the time-averaged rather than transient temperatures were required to be measured, thereby facilitating the experimental labors.
