Abstrakt

In the framework of pressurized water reactor severe accident, the core degradation may lead to a large zircaloy oxydation. Hydrogen generated from ZR-steam reaction is released into the primary coolant system and accumulates in the steam generator U-tubes. This may have a significant effect on system thermalhy-draulics and in particular condensation heat transfer in steam generator U-tubes. Test has been performed on the french integral facility, Bethsy (volumetrically scaled -1/100- full height, full pressure model of a three loop 900MWe PWR) with the main purpose of checking out the condensation process in the SG U-tubes with the presence of light non-condensable gas (hydrogen replaced by helium) and obtaining an experimental basis for the assessment of the Cathare code (two fluid best estimate thermalhydraulic code) in such physical situations. This paper deals with the detailed experimental description of the heat transfer phenomena (reflux condenser mode with helium) and with the comparison between the test results and the Cathare code predictions.
