Abstrakt

A novel technique for transporting phase change paraffin such as tetradecane has been suggested. Namely, the porous particle of super-hydrophobic flexible gel, named marshmallow-like gel, is used for a carrier of paraffin. In this study, the dispersion characteristics of the super-hydrophobic flexible marshmallow like gel were mainly focused on. The gel particles containing tetradecane were measured by using a differential scanning calorimeter (DSC). As the dispersants, sodium carboxymethyl cellulose was tested. The concentration of CMC was changed from 0 to 5 wt% in water. The mass fraction of marshmallow-like gel particles was 10 wt% in each solution. The flow characteristics of the gel slurry was also measured with once-through type flow path. From the results, it was confirmed that the gel particles were well dispersed by CMC when its concentration was set at larger than 0.6 wt%. The latent heat quantity of the sample indicated 72.6% of tetradecane contained in the gel. The friction coefficient of the gel slurry took higher values than that of water, but it was almost the same values with the CMC solution without gel. It indicated the gel particles was well dispersed in water by CMC addition. From these experiments, it was concluded that marshmallow-like gel was a promising candidate as latent heat transporting carrier of paraffin.
