Sinopsis

Experimental data for two phase heat transfer in small vertical tubes closed at the bottom and open to a liquid reservoir at the top (the open thermosyphon) with vapor-liquid counter current flow under gravities from 0.1 to 100 times earth gravity were obtained. Gravities less than 1.0 times earth were simulated by tilting the tubes from the vertical and gravities greater than 1.0 simulated in a centrifuge. Critical heat flow rates and convection coefficients are presented. Results are correlated based on dimensionless parameters obtained from analysis of an annular flow model.
