Sinopsis

The pressure rise of a two-phase system in a closed container subject to an external heat flux is considered, and depends on the heat and mass transfer interactions between the liquid, vapor and container. The problem is formulated in terms of the transport equations for a cylindrical tank with an axial body force and a symmetrically imposed heat flux. Numerical computations are carried out for liquid hydrogen in a large, partially filled tank under low gravity. The procedure takes into account the possibility of incipient and nucleate boiling. Comparison of the computed results with the only orbital experimental data available indicates qualitative agreement. More precise data are required.
