Sinopsis

An experimental study of the heat transfer characteristics of thin water films falling on the outside of a vertical brass tube was carried out by means of electrically heated elements. The elements varied in size and could be located at different positions on the tube. The Reynolds number ranged from 100 to 8800. The measured values of the heat transfer coefficient followed the form of the Dukler theory yet were smaller in magnitude. The location of the element had no influence upon the heat transfer coefficient. Tests with a wetting agent added to the water resulted in a reduction in the heat transfer rates.
