Sinopsis

Transient heat transfer characteristics inside drops moving in a second immiscible liquid were determined numerically. For the interface of the fluids, two distinct hydrodynamic model assumptions were applied: firstly, the often employed fully mobile constraint; and secondly, the totally immobile one. In the first case known models were extended to the full range of practically occurring Peclet numbers and were subjected to a time dependent surface temperature distribution. In the second case transient development of the internal circulation patterns was obtained by numerically solving the Navier-Stokes and continuity equation in vorticity-stream function formulation. The effects of free convection were considered by simultaneously solving the energy equation. Information on the surface temperature distribution as well as the initial velocity field inside the droplet was obtained from experimental investigation.
