Sinopsis

A finite-difference calculation method is described whereby the governing partial differential equations for conservation of mass, momentum, and energy are solved for the prediction of heat transfer in variable property turbulent flow through straight annular passages. A turbulence model has been developed which utilizes a simplified transport equation for the characteristic mixing length scale in the outer (central) part of the flow. The model correctly predicts the center-line velocity overshoot in developing flow between parallel plates. Several comparisons with experimental data are presented.
