Sinopsis

A hot-wire column type of experimental facility is described in its developed form for the unambiguous and accurate study of interface heat transfer. The measurements of heat transfer rates from a tungsten wire in the temperature range 300 to 2600°K are reported in vacuum and in neon at several pressures in the temperature-jump and continuum regimes. These data, obtained on the same apparatus and wire in situ, enable the simultaneous determination of the hemispherical total emittance of tungsten, Fourier thermal conductivity of neon, and thermal accommodation coefficient of neon on gas covered tungsten.
