Sinopsis

A simple model for convective heating of droplets, which takes into account their fi nite thermal conductivity and internal recirculation, is discussed. This model is based on the parabolic approximation of the temperature pro files inside droplets. The approximation of the average absorption efficiency factor of semi-transparent droplets by the expression arbdi, where rdi are the droplet radii, and a and b are quadratic functions of gas temperature, is discussed. The simplicity of both models makes them particularly convenient for implementation into CFD codes. Preliminary results of implementation of both models into the CFD code VECTIS of Ricardo Consulting engineers are presented.
