Sinopsis

The degradation of the condensation due to the presence of non-condensable gas is a concern in the passive condenser system of the advanced boiling water reactor. This research addresses this particular problem by performing careful experiments for the flow conditions expected in the passive condenser system and develop analytical model to predict the condensation heat transfer characteristics in the presence of non-condensable gas. A detailed scaling analysis was carried out and based on this scaling analysis a test facility was designed. A 50m m diameter and 1 m tall pipe condenser was used in the experiments. Tests were carried out with pure steam and steam-air mixtures for forced flow condition at pressure of 210kPa and 400 kPa. The preliminary data of the experiments were presented and were compared along with other data in the literature with the prediction by a recent model by Revankar and Pollock (2001) on forced flow tube condensation of steam-gas mixture.
