Sinopsis

The main objective is to investigate the effects of spanwise pressure gradient on heat transfer and a streamwise vortex embedded in a turbulent boundary layer. The numerical simulations is carried out for the turbulent boundary layer including streamwise vortex, which is rotating in clockwise and counter-clockwise direction, by using the Reynolds stress closure model with Launder, Reece and Rodi (LRR) for the pressure-strain correlation terms. The governing equation is discretized by the finite volume method and SIMPLE algorithm is used to calculate the pressure field. It is found that the streamwise vortex affected by the spanwise pressure gradient is shifted to right-hand side. The streamwise vortex more rapidly dies out due to spanwise pressure gradient. In addition, it is shown that the turbulent normal stresses are enhanced at the vicinity of the wall due to the spanwise pressure gradient. The stanton number and the skin friction coefficient are proportional and of the same order of magnitude.
