PARALLEL FLOW THROUGH THE ROTARY HEAT EXCHANGER
Sinopsis
Performance factors of a rotary regenerator with fluids in parallel-flow are presented. The calculations are based on a numerical finite-difference method solved by a digital computer. The effectiveness is
shown to oscillate above and below the effectiveness for a parallel-flow direct-transfer heat exchanger
and the oscillations decrease in amplitude as Cr/Cmin for the rotary regenerator increases. The maximum
effectiveness for the parallel-flow rotary regenerator is reached at a value of Cr/Cmin of approximately
1 and exceeds the effectiveness of a parallel-flow direct-transfer heat exchanger. This is in contrast
to a counter-flow rotary regenerator where the limiting effectiveness represented by the direct-transfer
heat exchanger effectiveness is never exceeded but is approached asymptotically as Cr/Cmin increases.
