Sinopsis

Thermally developing, hydrodynamically developed laminar forced convection in concurrent flow, circular, double-pipe heat exchangers is studied analytically. The average fluid temperatures, the local Nusselt numbers for the inner and outer channels, the exchanger effectiveness and the overall Nusselt number are presented as a function of the dimensionless axial position along the exchanger for different radius ratios. It is shown that the effect of radius ratio on heat transfer is more pronounced as the thermally developed region is approached. The recently advanced Sign-Count method is used to determine highly accurately as many eigenvalues as needed for the entry region problem. Tabulated benchmark solutions are presented for the first ten eigenvalues and the limiting Nusselt numbers.
