Sinopsis

A theoretical model is developed to describe the heat transfer occurring between trays in a sieve tray column. This model is then used to obtain an overall heat transfer coefficient based on dispersed phase surface area from experimental data. Comparison is made with values of the overall surface heat transfer coefficient predicted from single drops. Some observations on internal circulation are made. The conclusion is reached that the internal resistance to heat transfer is well-predicted by a diffusion model where an effective thermal diffusivity dependent upon drop Peclet number is used.
