Sinopsis

A theoretical and experimental investigation of high temperature wall to fluidized bed heat transfer is presented. The theoretical approach is based on the "packet model" assuming the emulsion to be an optically thick semi-transparent grey medium. The increase of heat transfer coefficient is related to the conduction to radiation parameter, N, (Planck number). The experimental study indicates that between 500°C and 900°C the heat transfer coefficient increases linearly with the temperature for silicon carbide particles (N>5) and does not increase linearly for alumina particles (N<5). An identification of the extinction coefficient of the dense phase from the comparison between the experimental results and the model is proposed.
