Sinopsis

SIMONE (SIMulation of Natural Convection Experiment) is 1/8 scale water experiment to simulate the in-vessel thermal-hydraulics of a large liquid metal cooled reactor (LMR). Temperature and Velocity fields are obtained. The experiments are organized in four phases. In the first phase, the free convection loop consists of fluid rising from the hotter channels of the heterogeneous core into the upper plenum and downward flow through the cooler channels to the lower plenum. For the second phase, calibrated porous plates are placed in the core channels to provide the additional flow resistance to match the Euler number to that in the reactor. In the Phase III an upper internal structure is added in the upper plenum. In the final phase the core coolability provided by two heat sinks placed symmetrically in the upper plenum is examined.
