Sinopsis

This work investigates the radiative properties of layered structures for partially coherent radiation. Optical coherence theory is employed to derive expressions for the transmittance and reflectance of layered systems. Limiting cases are discussed in terms of thin-film optics and geometric optics. Comparison with the transmittance and reflectance measured with a Fourier-transform infrared spectrometer demonstrates the applicability of the theoretical analysis. This study facilitates the determination of optical constants of thin solid films from the measured spectral properties.
