NATURAL CONVECTION IN A VERTICAL FLUID LAYER WITH INTERNAL HEATING
Sinopsis
It has been carried out a study on natural
convection in a vertical fluid layer of water with uniform internal heat generation. Fluid layer was rectangular confined regime. A pair of opposite vertical walls were cooled and maintained at constant temperatures
respectively, and other boundaries were adiabatic. Flow
visualization was conducted with tracer method and ink-injection method. Temperature distribution was also
obtained. Flow pattern changes systematically with
external and internal heating rate. Flow patterns were
classified into three types with the internal and external Rayleigh numbers. Similar flow patterns were observed for several aspect ratios. For large Rayleigh number, unstable wavy flow was observed. Numerical calculations were also conducted in stable case.
