Sinopsis

An experimental investigation is carried out about forced and mixed convection around a periodically-heated horizontal cylinder buried in a saturated glass beads bed with steady water flows. Thermally-concentrated regions are periodically observed in the down stream out of the cylinder, and the production and dispersion process of these regions are analyzed numerically. As well as buoyancy, the non-Darcian effects on temperature fields and the Nusselt number are found to be significant for large particle size. The channel, dissipation conductivity, and thermally non-equilibrium effects on the temperature distributions are also discussed.
